About Lakeshore FIRST Robotics

At Lakeshore FIRST Robotics, we're more than just robotics teams - we're a community dedicated to fostering innovation, education, and values that extend far beyond the competition arena. Our mission is deeply rooted in the core values of FIRST (For Inspiration & Recognition of Science & Technology), and we believe in building people, not just robots.

Our Commitment to FIRST Core Values

FIRST Robotics is built on a foundation of six core values: Gracious Professionalism, Coopertition, Inclusion, Innovation, Teamwork, and Fun. These values serve as our guiding principles and are woven into the very fabric of our program. We practice Gracious Professionalism by treating everyone with respect and kindness, whether we win or lose. Coopertition is at the heart of our approach, where we work together with other teams, even in the midst of fierce competition.

We Don't Just Build Robots, We Build People

While we are passionate about robotics and engineering, our primary focus is on the development of our team members as individuals. We are committed to nurturing the talents, skills, and character of our students. Through our program, students gain hands-on experience in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) fields, but they also learn vital life skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, leadership, and effective communication. We believe in empowering our students to be future innovators and leaders in an ever-evolving world.

Community Engagement

We understand the importance of giving back to our community. Our team actively engages in outreach initiatives, sharing our passion for STEM education with local schools, organizations, and the broader community. We're dedicated to inspiring the next generation of thinkers, tinkerers, and problem solvers.

Lakeshore FIRST Robotics is more than a robotics team; we are a family of learners and mentors. We are united by our shared values, a commitment to learning, and a vision of a future where everyone has the opportunity to explore, innovate, and succeed.

Join us on this incredible journey where we build not only robots but also strong, creative, and compassionate individuals. Together, we inspire, we learn, and we grow.

FIRST® LEGO® League Explore

Grades: 4K - 3

Ages: 4 - 9

FIRST® LEGO® League Explore is a project-based program which challenges the very young to solve a problem that faces our society today leveraging fun to spark their curiosity and innovation. They then build a moving sculpture of that potential solution to that problem out of LEGO® bricks.

FIRST® LEGO® League Challenge

Grades: 4 - 8

Ages: 9 - 14

FIRST® LEGO® League Challenge combines a project and the robot challenges. The project asks students to solve a problem facing society today, such as helping the elderly, or improving mass transportation system. The robot is created from Lego Mindstorms and must navigate a 4' x 8' obstacle course for maximum points.

FIRST® Tech Challenge

Grades: 7 - 10

Ages: 12 - 16

FIRST® Tech Challenge increases the difficulty of the robotic challenge by changing to the "Tetrix" building system (similar to erector set), more powerful motors, more advanced sensors, and JAVA as a programming language. In our program, students can choose to join FTC immediately or stay in FLL during the 7th and 8th grade.

FIRST® Robotics Competition

Grades: 9 - 12

Ages: 14 - 18

FIRST® Robotics Competition is the pinnacle of FIRST, culminating with the most freedom for student creativity. Students are free to create from any material, any off the shelf part can be used provided the robot meets that year’s size/weight/cost constraints. In addition, business students create videos, setup the website, and create all the marketing materials.

Our Lakeshore FIRST Robotics Teams

We have 5 FIRST® Robotics Competition (FRC) teams based in Manitowoc County that are part of the Lakeshore FIRST Robotics coalition. To learn more about each individual team, check out their team website.
